THE GOOD NEWS THREAD!
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090218/tuk-all-18-survive-helicopter-crash-6323e80.html
All 18 people onboard a helicopter which ditched in the North Sea en route to a production platform have been recovered safe and well, the coastguard said. The Super Puma helicopter went down around 125 miles east of Aberdeen in Scotland at around 6.40pm on Wednesday.
Three of those onboard were rescued by a Bond helicopter while the other 15 were recovered by a platform lifeboat and taken to the installation.
The coastguard said that no serious injuries have been reported though there were some with minor injuries, described as walking wounded.
The helicopter crash survivors later landed at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The helicopter, with 16 passengers and two crew onboard, ditched around 500m from the BP platform.
People onboard the installation raised the alarm when they saw it plunge into the water and a major rescue operation was launched.
Aberdeen Coastguard immediately put out a mayday in the area and asked the Air Rescue Co-ordination Centre at RAF Kinloss for help. A Nimrod aircraft was mobilised to co-ordinate the air rescue and three helicopters, including a military one from RAF Lossiemouth, went to the scene. Vessels in the area also went to help.
The coastguard said that weather at the scene was moderate but darkness hampered the rescue operation, and the cloud base was below the nearby platform's helideck level.
First Minister Alex Salmond said: "I would like to thank all those involved in this dramatic rescue for their sterling work which averted what could have been a terrible tragedy."

That's great news! Unusual, too, because a helicopter crash does not usually have a happy ending.

Actually, quite the opposite. Most helicopter "incidents" are so uneventful, they don't make the news, and no one gets hurt (research: "autorotation"). The helicopter crashes we hear most about are "shot" down, which isn't really a crash, IMO.
Happy endings are almost always good, in any case. However, they don't make for profitable news reporting.

Re: THE GOOD NEWS THREAD!
Well I don't know if anyone else has any good news of any nature but I do. On a personal note, for quite some time now both my high blood pressure and my diabetes have been under control and seem to have stabilized somewhat. Now if I could only get rid of some of this unwanted weight. Seems like the older we get the easier it is to put on and the harder it is to get off.

Is HBP made worse by stress or getting angry? Then avoid getting into heated debates on here -
My dad was diagnosed with diabetes, a few years ago, type 'two', if that makes sense?
Anyway, best wishes in your health issues, OT.

Re: THE GOOD NEWS THREAD!
HotParadox wrote:ahhh! That explains it, DM. Bad news sells...
Well, this seems to be the 'accepted wisdom'.
But is it true?
I would like to see the following.
Rather than a newspaper that was titled toward doom and gloom all the time, a newspaper that still give real news stories, but dedicated to giving out news stories that were of inspiration, courage, and humour. I would buy it. And, let's be honest, one could still get their fill of reading about killings and war, elsewhere, right?
Who knows, perhaps that line about 'bad news selling' might not even prove to be as accurate as we are led to believe.
Maybe lots of people would buy the alternative?
Who doesn't want to feel uplifted?

It would never had worked on Scam, imo.
You need a smaller number of members to make it work.
Otherwise you would have people chiming in with something negative, just because they felt they had too piss on our parade.

While that is true, sometimes it cannot be avoided.
Stress= the uncontrollable urge to choke the living s**t out of some a**h**e that really deserves it.
I don't get angry ---I get even ---it is more fun.
and type two diabetes does make sense, that is what I have.

What I added is in ( ). But anything you would like to describe your new thread to clarify its theme would be good. Usually when first joining in on the chat in a thread, the reader will refer to the first post to see what the thread's about.

Thanks.
They said that about Einstein.
He was okay I suppose, but I did not really rate the fella.
Think of music.
Okay, many people may well buy a wide range of music, but there has always been a market out there for music which has a good and funky tune.
Like this for example

Re: THE GOOD NEWS THREAD!
Well my Operating system crashed yesterday. We won't even go into the crap I went through with that useless dork squad and the useless service plan I bought from them. That's bad news.
Good news
I thought I'd lost everything. When I put in my recovery disk and reinstalled I thought I should have tons of free disk space after but didn't. I did what the instructions said but I just knew something went wrong. My nephew asked if I reformatted before I reinstalled, uhhh nope, the book just said pop the disk in and follow instructions so when it came up I just clicked install. It did reinstall and deleted the old OS and reinstalled Vista, but saved all my files to a folder called old windows. I'm glad I did a little more digging before I reformatted and reinstalled again cause had I not screwed up and did click to do the complete wipe-out and format all that stuff would be gone. Now I can just burn it to discs then delete it to regain my disk space... PHEW!!! Kinda makes me wanna go play the lottery. Now that's good new!

I thought this was a good story. It's about a family that has opened it's doors to people who need a place to stay, even though they're not well off financially.
