Naked Truth!!!

I was thinking this today - Why do we have such a hang up about nudity? What do we feel so over the idea of seeing someone naked, or them seeing us naked?

Sure, there are beaches and clubs for those of a mind to go around naked.

But these tend to be exclusive for that purpose.

We even still see people uneasy with breast feeding in public!

Jeez. It isn't sexual, and it is 100% natural. What is the fuss?

If a person walked down the high street naked, chances are they would be arrested.

Is this fair?

After all, they are only doing what nature intended, and that walk around outside, without man mad clothing.

Surely it only offends if you want it to offend?

It is only a problem, if you want it to be a problem..

The pragmatic side is fine, I wear clothes since it is too cold here not to, apart from anything else.

I am just trying to get my head around why, as a society, many have such a thing about nudity or their own physical self.

Perhaps there is a religous influence, behind the psyche.

Many Christians would be the first to oppose a nudist beach, for example, and of course, we have Islam, a religion that seems to be obsessed with covering females up.

To my mind, religion appears to teach people that your v own body is an object of 'sin', that it is something 'dirty' or 'sexual'.

Would you concur with that?

Actually, that may have some basis to the origins of our outlook, whether we are religous or not, the fact is that stories like this have been passed down as 'fact', and even if we now think them absurd, a part of the influence remains on, in a way.

Nude or not is totally immaterial I think. I have always gone by the belief that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you see someone nude then you see them dressed they are still the same person. I kind of think it boils down to a code for society to live by. Thee are two sets of laws for this code:

1 Gods laws

2. Mans laws

both are designed to give us a code of ethics to govern ourself by, Just my two cents worth

I've never had a problem being nude. I enjoy being able to make others laugh.

I think it's a combination of religion and fear. Fear that a man can't control himself around a naked woman and would automatically jump her bones. And fear that someone might actually make fun of ones assets or lack there of. Yes, there's a multitude of reasons.

Ya know Hound, I think that you said it all with that statement. But I still think that as nice a looking at a nude female is, Having a little fun guessing what is under all of the gift wrapping and the actual unwrapping the " xmas present " is actualy more fun.

I've lived in Spain, people go topless on the beaches, no problem.

It is not a pretty sight all of the time, mind you!

This is a subject that I actually have thought about...A lot...Having been a preschool teacher for the first section of my life, I observed that a child's desire to be covered up has a specific age/stage of cognitive development where it really kicks in...I will have to finish this thought later, I have customers (shit)

But you can go into any art school and you will find that they use nude females for their students to learn to draw curves and such because who has more and better curves all in the right places.

...So, as I was saying, I believe that around the age of three to six years old, a child, for some reason, no longer feels comfortable whipping their clothes off so they can run around with recluse abandon ...Why at this age? because adults make it so...Ever seen a little kid pull their shirt up (or skirt up) over their head? this is not something you observe in older children (well spring break being an exception of course) I strongly believe this is embarassment artificially caused by adult hang ups...

You are correct Pete. Haven't we all heard our parents or someone elses parents say now don't do that it isn't nice or little girls don't do that in front of boys, it isn't nice to do that or something along those lines.

Absolutly OT, I once worked with a child that was terrified of dogs.

So, there was this old gentle dog that was a neighbor's, he would mosey into the back yard play area and take the most incredible abuse (love) from the kids. This was back in the early '80's so having stray dogs wandering around playing with kids wasn't considered a big deal...ANyway, this little girl (otherwise completely well adjusted) used to climb to the top of the junglegym and cry, even as the dog was just lying on it's side in the sun getting petted by mounds of children. Over time I carried the girl closer and closer to the dog (mainly because I couldn't just tend to one child now could I?) And I eventually got her to sit next to me with the dog right on the other side (he had taken to resting his head on my leg during story time). Eventually, she asked if she could pet our class's adopted pet...I had her place her hand on top of mine and we pet together, I slowly worked my hand out from under hers, and presto, the fear was gone...

Now back to my point...So, all the children are out back in the playground, at the end of the day, waiting to be picked up. This little girl is curled up next to the dog petting away, when I hear a high pitched scream from the back steps...Did you already guess who was there hands over mouth, wide eyed and terrified? If not, it was the girls mom, her total fear of dogs was passed on to her daughter. It only took me a short time to de-program the girl, and I ended up doing the same for the mom, but I think it will stick with the girl, but not for the mom...(BTW I stressed not approaching strange animals!!)

I know this was not quite on the nakididity subject, but related to my earlier point all the same...

Perhaps we should all sit naked while posting on this thread.

Just from being at a few biker parties, (american type biker with the leather and choppers and the bugs in the beard ), and all the women that get drunk and high and naked.... I know where you are coming from buddy. All human bodies are beautiful, but some were just meant to be covered and left a mystery.

That could be enough to give a little boy coming into puberty nightmares if he were to see somethiong like that. Bad enough to see it with clothes on huh.

Are the people who harbour most discomfort in nudity, esp that in children, hiding something?

Are they secretly stimulated by that idea, if you see where I am at here..

I think the reason some people are about nudity is cus there worried about how other people will see them, like when u first take that step with a new partner so many thought's go through my head lol, will he think this is ugly, will he think this is fat ect ect

as for breast feeding i wouldn't worry about that at all, cus it would be me feeding my baby, as u said before it's natural.

and yeah it is wrong that someone would get arrested for nutidy i think that's a bit extreme but maybe that's just me who knows lol

I can tell you from a male point of view. Most men anyway. If we are at that next step with a new partner, ugly is not a factor anymore. So rest assured, once you're there, you got no worries.

oh yes lol your totally right, i mean not everyone is the same and most of the time im fine but when i'm alone with sum1 or have to show some of my body in person with someone i get very shy and insecure lol

That is v common too. I have had g/f's who had good figures, and still have that hang up. Seems less of an issue among men.

Any thoughts as to why that is?

Isn't it an expensive hobby, keeping live bugs. Are you allowed to have any from another country or must you just collect the ones in your own country. I must profess my ignorance about bugs. the only thing I have ever done with a bug is either kill it or use it for fishing bait.

It can be expensive, fella, yes. But I would rather spend my money on that these days, than going out, and drinking beer, etc. We can quite easily get all manner of exotic bugs, from all over the world.

I can't really speak for other girls to be honest, i don't know with me i think it's cus the vision of beauty these days in the media, mags, adverts,films,music, are all stick figures with huge boobs so we feel we have to look that way or we're horridly ugly!

also it is in ur mind aswell, if u think ur ugly, not many other people can tell you otherwise becuase it's what you see and you think!

another thing with me is past relationship's and stuff, i got treated horribley and got made to think i was ugly and no else would want me and it's kinda stuck, many reasons but they all become one and make me how i ma i guess.
