Susan Boyle: Dying to Win Britain's Got Talent?

Who’s that brown-haired lady sashaying through the streets of Scotland?
It’s Susan Boyle!
Yes, folks, the Britain’s Got Talent! YouTube sensation has done away with her salt-and-pepper flyaway ’do.
However, a rep for the show insists the cosmetic changes are not something new for Ms. Boyle. In other words, she’s not being put through some sort of insta-celebrity-induced beauty overhaul.
"Her sisters took her to her local salon where she had her monthly trim and a wash in and wash out color put on,” the show’s rep just emailed me. “That is all.”
British newspapers report that Boyle visited the Miss Toner salon near her home in Blackburn, Scotland. The hair job cost $51 and eyebrow pluck about $7, according to the Evening Standard.
The supposed leather jacket she’s been sporting these days turns out to be a $23 PETA-friendly fake from a discount clothing chain.
Boyle did receive true Hollywood treatment when she was in the salon. Just like they do at some stores along L.A.’s über-trendy Robertson Boulevard, window shades at Miss Toner’s were pulled down to keep Boyle away from prying eyes—and paparazzi.
DailyMakeover.com recently presented a couple of computer-generated makeover possibilities for Ms. Boyle. A survey by the beauty website revealed that most people agree with what I said in my videoblog yesterday—some sort of makeover is in order for the rising star. No, nothing radical. Is there really anything wrong with a little stylin' here and there?
So what do you all think of Boyle's spiffed-up look? Let the beauty battles begin!

think she was born with the potential to be attractive. Perhaps her self-esteem will improve now and all she will simply need to do is allow her hair to grow somehwhere around shoulder length, where it can be reasonably stiled. Also, lose some weight. This will rid her of her double chin and 'frumpy' appearence. After all, she was a sort of slave most of her life to her parents. taking care of them. Had little or no time left for herself.
Anyhow, I wish her the best. I will say again that I would like to hear her sing more songs. 'Cry Me a River" Is Good! Hope she can find a honest and caring Agent.
Tis truly said, thou art indeed a gentleman of the old school. My compliments my good man.

Re: Never Underestimate Anyone...
What makes you say that? All she did was get her hair colored a bit and styled and trimmed her eyebrows. I didn't think she looked "bad" to begin with, but I think it's a great improvement. Most women do the same "treatments" anyways, so it's nothing all that far out or out of the ordinary. She is maybe just taking care of herself and her apperanace a bit more and I think that's a positve thing, just for herself alone. I bet she feels great about it too. All women deserve to feel good when they look in the mirror and feel special in some way.CarolinaHound wrote:She looked better the way she was.

hehehe.. now she gives me flashbacks to a friend my parents had when I was a kid. Nice enough lady, sweet as can be, but she'd pinch the heck out of my cheeks. She'd make me hug her which was an experience that would make water boarding seem very tame. Then came the living nightmare, she'd have to kiss me, right smack on the lips, and God bless her, she had breath that could register on a geiger counter. Which now I know she gave me the hug first on purpose so I'd be out of breath with choice but to breath in when the kiss came. It was horrible. For years I'd lose dates because I'd sniff their mouths before I'd kiss them. It's funny now, but a true story none the less.

that's really strange... I had a experience with a family of nudist that lived on the street behind us. They had a big house and yard and it was surrounded by a very high and dense bamboo thicket. I would go over there to play as they seemed like nice folks, even though they ran around naked out in the yard, most of the time. There was the Mom and Dad and a daughter. Seems like I remember that she was probably in her mid twenties. They were people of German descent. I think he was a dentist - he was Doctor ------- [somebody]. This girl was big and attractive. She used to lay me on top of her out on the lawn, like playing. I was about six. I didn't think anything was unusual about this. In later years I had a couple of hmmmmm moments... Later, she was going to new york city and wanted to take me along on the trip. My parents nixxed that!

Nope, I just think that he ran into my aunt. She used to do that very same thing to me. And to top it off she used to smell like she took a bath in the worst smelling perfume in the wold. You could not only smell her a block away when she was coming, but the smell lingered on for days it seemed and made us all sick. But the old gal did have a heart of gold.

strong perfume is a dead give away of frequent avoidance of soap and water! But, as you implied, doesn't necessarily 'measure' the nature of such a person.
Brings to mind many years ago [long lead-up story which I wont go into, but those were such very interesting years - I don't think that they will ever be again]... Anyhow, this man that had a distant affiliation to my father who helped him 'find himself again, after he lost all his wealth in the depression of '28; he would show up occasionally at our home. He was a very tall and big man [moreso to little kids - grown adults often appear as giants to little children] It seemed now that he was a 'Peddler', which means that he mad money off the street in any way possible, aside from being involved in illegal things. He would appear out of nowhere, often wearing a large and heavy coat. Inside of this coat were many, many pockets. In these pockets he usually had stuffed into them various candies and cheap, interesting novelty items. In those times there were a lot of these. This due to the times and the war and the economy being sorely depressed. Today, if one has any of thee 'cheap' items, they are so unique that they would bring something like perhaps $50.00 now, for something that cost .05 cents then. Anyhow, he would bend over to our height and allow us to rummage these pockets until we found something we liked. THen, one day, he never came again and I grew up. But somehow, from times to time, as now, I still remember him; his name: 'Paul Tiddlesome'... Interesting about those things, how, out of so many life experiences certain things as this stay with one through a lifetime. I will have to say that there is some signifigance there to such situations, although I seldom can answer why?

Could it be that it is a fond memory of harder times that we cherish and will not give up and will remain in the back of our minds until needed then springs forth to bring a smile to our face again.

The Welsh actress may have some competition for the story of the Scottish singer's sensational appearance on Britain's Got Talent, though, as Titanic director James Cameron is also reported to have expressed interest in the project.
News of a movie angle came as the church volunteer stepped up efforts to spruce up her image.
In addition to her newly coloured chestnut hair and tweezed eyebrows the church volunteer had adopted plum lipstick this week – the first time she's been seen wearing makeup.
Susan also appeared to have purchased a new outfit comprising a dress with a feminine pussycat bow and cropped jacket.
Thus attired the talent show sensation addressed the regular knot of photographers now camped outside her West Lothian home in Scotland on speculation she wants to leave Simon Cowell's programme to launch her career as soon as possible.
"There is no way I am quitting the show. The only way I'd leave the show is if Simon Cowell kicked me out!" she laughed.

BGT Star Susan 'Wanted On American Idol'
Britain's Got Talent's singing sensation Susan Boyle has become so popular in the US she is reportedly being wooed by the producers of American Idol.
Ryan Seacrest, the show's presenter, was asked on the Twitter website if the 48 year old would be making an appearance on the US talent programme.
"Genius idea... I'm gonna shoot email to producers now," was his reply.
Though no date has been set, a source on the show has revealed that there is every possibility of Susan performing on it.
Simon Cowell is a boss on both shows, so it could easily happen.
The source said: "If she is not on Idol before this series ends in May, she will probably end up there next year as the BGT winner.
"It would give the show a ratings boost."

Susan in the Semi Finals (she won by the way, and will continue on to the finals next week):
Members of the public voting in a telephone poll picked her as the best of eight performers who appeared Sunday, meaning she will sing again in the contest's final next Saturday.
Bookmaker William Hill has made her a runaway favorite to win on May 30.
The singer, who lives alone with her cat Pebbles in one of Scotland's poorest regions, said before Sunday's performance that she wouldn't transform her appearance. "I just want people to see me for who I am, and do my best at singing the song, that's what I am focusing on," she said.
Boyle grew up the youngest of nine children in Blackburn, a community of 4,750 people 20 miles (32 kilometers) west of Edinburgh, in Scotland, and a district blighted by unemployment and crime. She suffered learning difficulties as a child and was bullied by other children.
As an adult, she's struggled for work but had been a regular on her local karaoke circuit and performed in church choirs.
In an interview with The Associated Press at her home last month, she said the death of her mother had inspired her to enter the TV talent show.
"I wanted to show her I could do something with my life," Boyle said.
Contestants are competing to perform at Britain's annual Royal Variety Show - attended by members of the royal family - and win a 100,000 pound ($159,000) prize.

Piers Morgan Defends Susan Boyle After Public Outburst
Us Magazine - May 28, 2009 8:35 AM PDT
Britain's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan wants people to lay off Susan Boyle.
According to British reports, the 48-year-old Scottish singing sensation -- who won over millions with a YouTube performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables and advanced to the finals last weekend with her rendition of "Memory" from Cats -- cussed out two strangers in the lobby of the Wembley Plaza Hotel in North London on Wednesday.
When police intervened, she broke down in tears and stormed off. (A rep for Boyle tells London's The Times that the incident was caused by a pesky reporter. "A journalist from a tabloid paper provoked her, the police just happened to be at the hotel and escorted said journalist out after making sure Susan was OK," the spokesperson told the paper.)
It wasn't her only outburst this week: Boyle also reportedly cussed at a television set in the hotel bar Tuesday after she heard judge Morgan praise rival singer Shaheen Jafargholi, 12, on Britain's Got Talent. (Her rep denies the incident.)
On CBS' The Early Show Thursday, Morgan said he's "feeling more supportive" of Boyle "today than I was before, because I feel really sorry for Susan.
"From what I hear," he told co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez, "she's been in tears the last two days. She even threatened to leave the show yesterday at one stage, because of the sheer amount of pressure on her.
"And you have to remember with Susan, she's a 48-year-old lady from a tiny village in Scotland who has never been exposed to anything like this kind of attention. And I think she's really feeling the heat.
"The hotel she's in is crawling in tourists, crawling in the media. I think maybe she overreacted. I don't know what happened. She denies, apparently, some of the things that have been reported.
"But either way, I know she's feeling a lot of pressure, and I think that most people watching this show and hearing about this will feel natural sympathy toward her. And I just hope it all calms down for the final. Because, on Saturday, she sings for the competition."

Re: Never Underestimate Anyone...
Susan Boyle's dream ends as she loses talent show
LONDON (AFP) – "Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle was dealt an unexpected blow when she lost out to a group of young street dancers in the final of the British talent show that made her a global star.
Despite winning praise from the audience and the judges in her final performance on live television, the 48-year-old graciously accepted second place, saying the "best people won" and wishing the winners "all the best".
Boyle enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame over the past two months after video footage of her audition piece for the show, "I Dreamed A Dream" from the musical "Les Miserables", was posted on video-sharing website YouTube.
It has had about 100 million hits, brought her celebrity fans including actress Demi Moore and rock star Jon Bon Jovi and seen her feted in the media from the United States to China, Japan and Australia.
Bookmakers made her the favourite to win, but after an unconvincing performance in the semi-final there were fears that the church volunteer, who lives alone with her cat outside Edinburgh, was suffering under the pressure.
However, in a live performance in the "Britain's Got Talent" final Saturday, Boyle proved the critics wrong and repeated her audition piece with gusto.
Judge Piers Morgan said it was the "greatest performance I've seen on the history of Britain's Got Talent -- you should win the competition, I loved it."
Boyle was up against nine other acts to win the show, which brings with it a cheque for 100,000 pounds (115,000 euros, 160,000 dollars) and the chance to perform for Queen Elizabeth II.
More than a million viewers cast their vote following the live performances, and in the end, Boyle lost out to a group of ten young dancers, named Diversity. Saxophonist Julian Smith came in third place.
After singing earlier in the evening, Boyle, wearing a grey-blue, long sequined dress, thanked all her fans.
"I want to thank people for all the support they've given me," she said.
Asked if it was worth all the media pressure, she replied emphatically: "Well worth it!... I really feel at home on stage, I'm among friends."
Boyle put in a shaky performance of "Memory" in the show's semi-finals last weekend, singing occasionally out of tune and out of time, and some fans on YouTube had questioned whether she could handle the weight of expectations.
The British media had also reported some erratic behaviour over the past week, including how she had lost her temper in the foyer of the London hotel where she was staying prompting police to intervene.
Morgan said that she even considered quitting, describing her in his blog as a "frightened rabbit in headlights".
But his fellow judge Amanda Holden said after Saturday's performance: "I have never heard such powerful confident vocals."
Reports on Sunday suggested Boyle could make millions of pounds in the next year if she capitalised on her global success, with the News of the World saying one of the show's judges, music promoter Simon Cowell, had big plans.
"It's the biggest phenomenon I've ever seen out of any of my shows," Cowell told the newspaper, which suggested an album, a film of her life and a memoir were in the pipeline.
Asked about her plans on television after the show, Boyle said: "I hope to get an album out -- I'll just play it by ear."
She added: "What a journey -- unbelievable, and very humbling. Thank you for everything."
Hoards of fans had gathered in her hometown of Blackburn near Edinburgh to watch the final and support Boyle, and Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond also congratulated the singer, saying she could "hold her head up high".
"She lost because people didn't bother voting for her because they thought she was going to win it," lamented 21-year-old Gordon Mackenzie."I didn't vote for her because I thought everyone else would."
Still, the woman who became an Internet sensation during her audition -- wowing judges and an audience who were initially skeptical because of her dowdy appearance -- may have an active musical career ahead of her."
I wish her the best, a successful recording career and more, along with emotional balance and happiness. Fame, the media and show biz are never easy meals to digest or keep down.
Her next plan include:
LONDON (AFP) - Unlikely Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle was plotting her future Sunday after her defeat in the "Britain's Got Talent" television show, which made her a worldwide star thanks to Internet exposure.
Boyle, a frumpy, 48-year-old church volunteer, will reportedly earn up to eight million pounds (nine million euros, 13 million dollars) in the next year from a record deal, a book about her life and even a film.
She is set to start rehearsing for an album of showtunes this week and will fly to Prague next month for recording sessions with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, British media said.
Boyle's career looks likely to reach new heights even though she lost to the multi-ethnic street dancers Diversity in a public vote after the live talent show final late Saturday.
Despite winning praise from the audience and the judges, she was forced into second place. The "best people won", she said, wishing the dance troupe winners "all the best".
After the contest, "Britain's Got Talent" judge Piers Morgan called her "the greatest discovery the show's ever found".
He added: "I'm only sorry that the extraordinary tidal wave of publicity she attracted meant so many people got either bored or irritated by Boyle mania and decided not to vote for her as a result," he wrote on his blog.
Boyle has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame over the past two months after video footage of her audition piece for the show, "I Dreamed A Dream" from the musical "Les Miserables", was posted on YouTube.
It has had at least 100 million hits and brought her celebrity fans including actress Demi Moore and rock star Jon Bon Jovi, who embraced the dowdy spinster from small-town Scotland with a voice worthy of Broadway.
Bookmakers made her the favourite to win, but after an unconvincing semi-final performance, there were fears that Boyle, who was starved of oxygen at birth and has mild learning difficulties, was suffering under the pressure.
She was spoken to by police after an outburst at the London hotel where she was staying, while Morgan described her as "a frightened rabbit in headlights" and said she had considered quitting the contest.

A total of 19.2 million people watched the show in Britain, making it the most popular television programme for five years.
Just under four million people voted, broadcaster ITV said, with 24.9 percent backing Diversity and 20.2 percent Boyle.
Boyle's performance was also watched by hundreds of fans in her home town of Blackburn, outside Edinburgh, where she lives in social housing with only her cat Pebbles for company.
"She told me that after the final, she wants to come back and resume her previous life," one of Boyle's neighbours, 24-year-old housewife Vicky McLean told the Mail on Sunday newspaper.
"She doesn't want to make millions and go to America, she just wants to sing. I think all she really hopes to have out of it is enough money to buy her house."

It is sad indeed but I really do believe that the media does not really care and will continue to pursue the matter. Just look at what they have done in the past.

Perhaps somebody else has already said it, but, I think she might have won overall if she had learned to sing several other songs and sang them in her appearences. I don't have any problem with the woman, it would be nice if she had one. But, one could already anticipate her performance when she appeared; just like some wind up automaton. steps onto the stage and guess what she sings.
I am sure all of you have heard of a 'one trick pony'!

Re: Never Underestimate Anyone...
Perhaps she got a taste of what fame can do for a person and had her fill of it. That's the only reason I can think of that she would have sang the same song that shot her into the public eye. She had to of known people would say it was the same ol stuff. Either way, if she wants it, she still has a career ahead of her. Maybe Clay Akin will use her on one of his albums. There's numorous ways for her to make a living singing and still stay out of the spotlight if she can't handle it.
