UN retracts claim strike hit Gaza school
February 5, 2009, 6:15 am

The United Nations has retracted a claim that an Israeli strike which killed more than 40 people in northern Gaza city of Jabaliya last month hit a school run by a UN agency.

"The humanitarian coordinator would like to clarify that the shelling, and all of the fatalities, took place outside rather than inside the school," the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in its latest weekly update on the situation in Gaza.

It stressed that its initial report of the January 6 incident correctly stated that Israeli shells hit outside the school run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees UNRWA, but that it later referred to "the shelling of the UNRWA school in Jabaliya."

The Israeli military initially said its forces had responded to hostile fire from within the UN school but later reportedly retracted that statement.

The attack sparked widespread outrage in the midst of Israel's deadly offensive in Gaza.

You are the idiot... The shelling took place outside the compound.

Outside the compound means, they didn't bomb the school.

Even more interesting is this from article a few days ago:

"It seems that the UN has been under pressure to put the record straight after doubts arose that the school had actually been targeted. Maxwell Gaylord, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Jerusalem, said Monday that the IDF mortar shells fell in the street near the compound, and not on the compound itself.

Gaylord said that the UN "would like to clarify that the shelling and all of the fatalities took place outside and not inside the school."

...

"Questions about the veracity of the claims that the school had been hit by the IDF were also raised last week by the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail. The newspaper said that a teacher in the UNRWA compound at the time of the strike "was adamant" that no people had been killed inside the compound."
....

My god... You really are a terrorist apologist, aren't you catch?

Who's the apologist, Grim?

This from the BBC January 7.

"The UN aid agency in Gaza, Unrwa, said three artillery shells had landed close to the al-Fakhura school on Tuesday afternoon, spraying shrapnel on people both inside and outside the building.

About 350 people had sought refuge at the school in an effort to escape the fighting between Israeli soldiers and militants on the outskirts of the Jabaliya refugee camp, to the east of Gaza City.

Television footage showed bodies scattered on the ground amid pools of blood.

The UN officials said they regularly provided the Israeli military with exact co-ordinates of their facilities, and that the school was in a built-up area.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he was "deeply dismayed" that despite these efforts, three UN-run schools had been hit by nearby Israeli strikes....
and this from The Guardian on the same day...

"Most of those killed were in the school playground and in the street, and the dead and injured lay in pools of blood. Pictures on Palestinian TV showed walls heavily marked by shrapnel and bloodstains, and shoes and shredded clothes scattered on the ground. Windows were blown out..."

New York Times. You guessed it....Same Day!

"Israeli mortar shells killed as many as 40 Palestinians, among them women and children, outside a United Nations school in Gaza on Tuesday where they were taking refuge in the 11th day of the conflict."

That was bad wording on my part... Here, try this:

You are a terrorist supporting propagandist.

As for your BBC quote, shelling on the street in front of a school, is a far cry from bombing a school. The IDF was engaged in fighting Hamas, not targeting a school like you and the press tried to make people believe.

Now, where is your outrage over Hamas using women and children as human shields? Where is your outrage at Hamas firing rockets at innocent civilians? Where is your outrage over Hamas launching attacks from hospitals? Where is your outrage over Hamas torturing it's own people? Where is your outrage over Hamas publicly calling for it's people to murder innocent Jews?

I'm waiting?

I'm only trying to put your bullshit into perspective by providing evidence that, at the time, most credible news sources reported that the bombardment which killed 40 civilians including children happened outside the school. They also reported that most of the 40 ccivilians killed were cut down by flying shrapnel. The school was also badly damaged and windows blown out. The IDF may not have had a direct hit on the school but they still killed 40 civilians. Killed 40 civilians, you heartless bastard! That's where my outrage is Grim...40 civilians killed and you can excuse it because they didn't actually hit the school building, just the playground.

The IDF were not aiming at Hamas at the time..The IDF admitted that themselves...(from your own link) "The Israeli military initially said its forces had responded to hostile fire from within the UN school but later reportedly retracted that statement." Therefore they were aiming at innocent civilians.

Your support for the terrorist group known as Hamas, couldn't be any more obvious.

It didn't hit the playground, it hit the street.

And the IDF retraction was not that it wasn't targeting Hamas militants, but that those militants were in the school.

Oh, that's OK then! Phew! They bombed the street and 40 civilians in a school playground just dropped dead!
Facts:
  • There were no Hamas in the school firing on the IDF.

  • 40 civilians inside and outside of the school were killed by IDF fire.

  • The IDF were given the co-ordinates of the school and were aware that about 400 civilians were sheltering in there.

  • The IDF used 2007 footage of fire coming from the school to justify their attack.

That's where my outrage is, Grim.

Post by Grim17 Thu Feb 05, 2009 9:03 pm

My whole argument is the topic of this thread. Israel was accused of bombing a school, which we just learned is not true.

Instead of acknowledging this, you instead try and twist the story into something it isn't. Israel was involved in a war against Hamas, and that incident was just one in many battles against those terrorist fucks. Pointing out the fact that innocent people die in war, is like saying that water is wet... Duh?

Now are you finally ready to address this:

Now, where is your outrage over Hamas using women and children as human shields? Where is your outrage at Hamas firing rockets at innocent civilians? Where is your outrage over Hamas launching attacks from hospitals? Where is your outrage over Hamas torturing it's own people? Where is your outrage over Hamas publicly calling for it's people to murder innocent Jews?

Or should I just assume, that you won't address anything that doesn't fit your anti-Israeli agenda?

When will you admit that Israel is wrong with using a blockade against innocent civilians thereby depriving them of medicine and basic essentials? When will you admit that the Zionists started this entire conflagration many decades ago? You know, the Zionist terrorist groups that killed innocent Arab civilians and forced 750,000 to flee from being slaughtered. You know...the same 750,000 that comprised the refugees in Palestine.

It's pretty sad really, that you continue to ABNEGATE reality and blame the Palestinians for merely responding to the oppression imposed on them in the flagrant face of an absence of justice. Israel has never paid for its crimes against humanity back in 1948. The UN gave them a legal existence and yet Israel continues to disregard the UN entirely.

Oh yes, I forgot you were a Zionist pud loving Israel first apologist and therefore, shouldn't expect any rational cognitive reasoning from you concerning this conflict.

Israel is protecting itself, which they have every right to do.

Not true. Israel and other countries provide the Palestinians with these things. Nice try thought.

Blah blah blah blah... Ancient history. Hamas refuses peace. Hamas wants to kill Jews. Hamas launches terrorist attacks, and pays the price for those attacks.

It's pretty sad really, that you continue to ABNEGATE reality and blame the Palestinians for merely responding to the oppression imposed on them in the flagrant face of an absence of justice.

Horseshit. Terrorism is never justified.

Oh wow, Egypt! Another country which receives an annual equalization payment from America to keep their mouths shut and support Israel. Looks like it has paid off, yes?

No ceasefire is legitimate while Israel imposes a blockade on Gaza. It's that simple.

Not true. Israel and other countries provide the Palestinians with these things. Nice try thought.

When Israel feels like it. Only after bombing them into the Stone ages and because of International outrage at their war crimes against the civilians in Gaza. They had no choice if they wanted to continue peddling their "victim-hood" via the media.

Blah blah blah blah... Ancient history. Hamas refuses peace. Hamas wants to kill Jews. Hamas launches terrorist attacks, and pays the price for those attacks.

A relevant history. If you want to disregard how the conflict began, I guess we can forget all about 9/11 and bring the troops home and leave the past in the past. How would you like that? OR is there a reason to leave the troops over there? The same goes for the Palestinians. They are fighting because of what occurred in history. If you won't forget 9/11, they won't forget what happened in 1948. Live with it.

Horseshit. Terrorism is never justified.

Terrorism or resistance? Israel has been and still occupies land which doesn't belong to them. This has been stated many times. Illegal settlements abound on Palestinian land. Fact.

Blah blah blah blah... Ancient history. The UN can suck my ass.

Of course I would expect you to state just that. You say the UN can "suck your ass" because you cannot refute the laws which outline Israel's illegal conduct. Face it, you're defeated and know it. There is nothing you can say but redneck one-liners saying Israel can do what it wants, when it wants and how it wants. And their justification is complete because Hamas is a terrorist organization that won't acknowledge or recognize Israel's "right to exist". How about the Palestinian right to exist? Did it ever occur to you that the absence of justice causes resistance groups (or in your mind, "terrists") to be born?

I addressed it twice already by saying that I am enraged by the deliberate killing of innocent civilians. I also stated I am enraged that the IDF lied about Hamas being in the school and firing at IDF forces and further perpetrated the lie by presenting 2 year old film footage as evidence to justify the deliberate murder of innocent civilians.

Are you so fucking busy defending the murderous Zionist bastards while the IDF ransacks Gaza and razes it to the ground that you can't comprehend what you are being told or are you just plain stupid?

Where is your outrage over the IDF slaughtering defensless animals in a zoo?

Just to set the record straight. The IDF did not present that 2 year old video and try and pass it off as being from the current conflict. I saw their presentation the day they released it. The IDF official stated clearly that the video was not from the current fighting, and was only an example of the tactics they use.

If you would have seen the presentation yourself, instead of relying on propaganda, you would have known that.

I know you are against war, but to continue to equate IDF forces, who are defending themselves against terrorism, with Hamas, who are the perpetrators of that terrorism, is about as dishonest as a person can be.

Yeah, them poor 'poisecuted' IDF soldiers, firing from the safe confines of their armored tanks, Apache gunships and F-16's are sure defending themselves. Those rock wielding "terrists" sure showed them how it's done. And those extremely explosive and accurate home-made "terrist" rockets whom have only generated 1 Israeli fatality since 2004 is sure effective too, n'est pas?

Israel has annexed land which doesn't belong to them as outlined by International Law. Until Israel returns to its 1967 borders, Hamas has every right to resist the occupation by any means necessary. Until Israel permits the Palestinians to set-up their own sovereign state, nothing will change. In fact, I posted an article written by an Israeli author which stated that Israel and America have been preventing the Palestinians from setting up their own state despite the media propaganda which contravenes the truth. You should read it and learn the truth.
