The Obama Debut
Not long now then, is it?
Dubya will be gone for good, with all his gaffes, comical and serious, and he will be replaced by a young guy called Obama.
The eyes of the world will be on the debutant.
There are those eager to embrace him as a new and fresh hope, for American.
Others are bitterly opposed to his Presidency, and yes, I do happen to think that racism plays a part in it, a fair % of the time, from such people.
He has a chance to hit the ground running, if he manages to be the one to broker a 'peace deal' in the ME, even a temp one, even one that looked good in the global press.
With the world anxious at the pics coming out of Gaza, would Obama not be hailed a hero by most, were he to oversee a peace treaty?
He must also tackle the economy, which, like the UK, seems to be in a mess.
Never a day goes by here now when a MAJOR employer is not going bust, or downsizing, with the cost of many jobs.
Are there even other jobs for these people to take?
I wonder.
There has been a large influx of E Europeans to the UK, esp Poles, Russians, Lithuaninans, and Romanians.
Many of them are now deployed as bus drivers, train station staff, etc.
The building trade is awash with people from East Europe.
If the job thing turns into an employment crisis, how long before unemployed Brits start to blame the E Europeans?
Anyway, the US economy is in the shitter, thanks to Bush. Big challenge for Obama to turn it around.
Of course, there is also his commitment to get out of Iraq.
I hope he makes good on that promise, there is no place in Iraq for foreign troops, and he would do well to make good the promise.
Clsoing G Bay?
About time.
Make good the commitment, and people can only respect that you did.
I should be his advice team.

I didn't vote for Obama, but I've made no secret that I'll support him. He deserves the opportunity to prove himself.

Prove himself he will, or maybe not. Congress will play a big hand in all of this.
Though it will be so nice to have a president that can actually speak the english language.

We do seem to be impressed by someone who can speak so eloquently...I guess it is true, its not what you say but how you say it hey?

It's both what you say, and how you say it.
Moreover, it's what you do/don't, that counts.

Re: The Obama Debut
Yep time to see what the fella is made of. I hope he does well. I haven't been a supporter of him or McCain. But I'll certainly give him the benefit of the doubt. Easy to say, got no choice in the matter now. hehehe
I do have to say I'm proud of the US today though. Obama has crossed a barrier that's been long over due. May he be the best prez we ever had. We sure do need that right now.

Re: The Obama Debut
Good luck to the fella.
Imo, there are those, sadly, who WANT him to fail, so that it reaffirms their askwed idea that a black man cannot preside over a nation.
It is pathetic, but the mindset is alive and well, we seen it often enough on Scam, huh?
All the attempts to smear his name, suggestions that he was a 'Muslim', or hollow allegations that he was not a US citizen, how failed.
There are those who oppose his views for perfectly legitimate reasons.
But there are still many whose sole reason is a racialist one.
We saw that on Scam, right?
You had the overt racists, then you had those that were closet racists, they might even take 'offence' were you to call them it, but that is what they really are.

Re: The Obama Debut
Anyone been watching the coverage of him hitting all the inaugural balls? He dances with Michelle once, says a few words and takes off to the next one. Every single one he dances to the same song, "At Last" by Etta James. Haha.
Looks like he's having fun.

I really haven't been paying attention. Errked me a little cause it was on instead of NCIS. And me missing NCIS, means I missed seeing my girl.
And I don't like missing my chic!
Re: The Obama Debut

I been thinking about making a TV/Film and Music subforums under General Chat. So I can talk about "Lost" and "24"

You are right. A lot want to see him fail for that very reason. I just hope he can get things on the way to getting straight. He made some good steps forward today in my opinion. It'd be something if he does so good I even get off my rump in 2012 to go vote to re-elect him. Now that'd be an accomplishment for him.

Any time a racist American shows their true colours, it resonates all through the world, and sadly, others form an impression that racism is rife in the US.

True. Me? I just think all politicians are crooks and liars, I don't care what color they are. Does that make me a politicianist? A politicianigotist?
Re: The Obama Debut
If they arent crooks and liars when they get to Washington, they will be soon.
I hope and pray Obama turns things around though. I think we are on the brink of some really serious problems if things get much worse with the economy.
