Does anyone know more about this bill being introduced?

Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009

I haven't heard much about it but from what I know, basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

It is registered

You are fingerprinted

You supply a current Driver's License

You supply your Social Security #

You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing

Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

Is this an attempt to disarm the general public?

I think the first four items on the list are required to purchase a firearm..I know not what I speak of ...but I think thats the requirement...the other stuff is bothersome...don't like the sound or wording...who's choosing????

We don't have to register our firearms down here in Texas. We are a consealed handgun state though and you have to have a license to carry one but you don't have to register your guns.

They did a background check on me when I bought my last handgun but it was just a quick check with the FBI.

I don't like the idea of paying to keep your guns. I've already bought them, why should I continue to have to pay for them? I've been reading more on them and you pay a license fee for each gun. So for hunters or collectors this could get very expensive.

I also don't like the idea that they can come and inspect your house anytime they want to. Sounds like illegal search and seisure to me.

I called my US Rep and his office told me that he is voting against this bill.

This sounds wrong on many levels... We don't need more laws.

Definitely a "no" vote. If American citizens are disarmed, it makes it too easy for the government to do as they please even more.
