A few very important facts about the Democrats' massive spending bill

I got this information from an email from the Republican Leader Press Office. The amount of money the Democrats want to spend is insane:
1. The House Democrats' bill will cost each and every household $6,700 additional debt, paid for by our children and grandchildren.
2. The total cost of this one piece of legislation is almost as much as the annual discretionary budget for the entire federal government.
3. President-elect Obama has said that his proposed stimulus legislation will create or save three million jobs. This means that this legislation will spend about $275,000 per job. The average household income in the U.S. is $50,000 a year.
4. The House Democrats' bill provides enough spending - $825 billion - to give every man, woman, and child in America $2,700.
5. $825 billion is enough to give every person living in poverty in the U.S. $22,000.
6. $825 billion is enough to give every person in Ohio $72,000.
7. Although the House Democrats' proposal has been billed as a transportation and infrastructure investment package, in actuality only $30 billion of the bill - or three percent - is for road and highway spending. A recent study from the Congressional Budget Office said that only 25 percent of infrastructure dollars can be spent in the first year, making the one year total less than $7 billion for infrastructure.
8. Much of the funding within the House Democrats' proposal will go to programs that already have large, unexpended balances. For example, the bill provides $1 billion for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which already have $16 billion on hand. And, this year, Congress has plans to rescind $9 billion in highway funding that the states have not yet used.
9. In 1993, the unemployment rate was virtually the same as the rate today (around seven percent). Yet, then-President Clinton's proposed stimulus legislation ONLY contained $16 billion in spending.
10. Here are just a few of the programs and projects that have been included in the House Democrats' proposal:
* $650 million for digital TV coupons.
* $6 billion for colleges/universities - many which have billion dollar endowments.
* $166 billion in direct aid to states - many of which have failed to budget wisely.
* $50 million in funding for the National Endowment of the Arts.
$44 million for repairs to U.S. Department of Agriculture headquarters.
* $200 million for the National Mall, including grass planting.
* $400 million for "National Treasures."
11. Almost one-third of the so called tax relief in the House Democrats' bill is spending in disguise, meaning that true tax relief makes up only 24 percent of the total package - not the 40 percent that President-elect Obama had requested.
12. $825 billion is just the beginning - many Capitol Hill Democrats want to spend even more taxpayer dollars on their "stimulus" plan.
This is way beyond big government. This is Fat Bastard big government: all bloated and gassy, a disgusting mess with its hairy belly hanging over its belt.

What a novel idea!
I wonder where we'd be if the $590 billion spent on the war in Iraq had been used to improve the lifestyles of Americans?

Who knows... At least the overwhelming majority of the American people supported going into Iraq and removing Saddam. In the case of this spending proposal, I would venture a guess that 90% of the American people have no Idea what's in it.
If they did, do you really think they would approve?
That's the question here.

Yep, the overwhelming majority of people supported removing Saddam but it only took a few short weeks to do that, not 6 years. Now as Bush leaves his support rating is 29%.

Re: Some facts about the Democrats' massive spending bill
So when all is said and done here what good will it do? When will the american people get tired of all of the BS from the politicians that can think on mostly themselves first and whatever last and even then there is rarely any real thought process as not much ever really gets done now does it. They do whatever they want to do and we just keep electing them to do it all over again don't we. Sorry about the ranting here guys but I am really starting to get fed up with all of their BS.

Im with OT. It is nothing but grasping for straws by the government and it will back fire big time. As grim points out it is a waste of money and will only de-value the dollar. When that continues to take place time and time again, guess what? Total economic collapse.

Re: Some facts about the Democrats' massive spending bill
Hey, here is a thought to ponder on. Just what would it take to really get something done about the crappy way that they are really doing things. It is said that action speaks louder than words. Well am I the only one that is not afraid of our government? What can we do. Legally of course.

Re: Some facts about the Democrats' massive spending bill
Really, I think it would be very easy to do. If a politicain takes any money from lobbist, fire them. Powerful companies will always get there way by simply buying the politician. Why should they recieve any money at all? But of course we would need for them to turn themselves in now wouldn't we? GREED the ruler of the world. I sincerly believe that every politician is crooked or will be come so.

Tie on a sign and protest? Throw green paint on politicians to represent the money they're throwing around? Or maybe throw fatback at them, but then that would be throwing our dinner at them the way things are going. I'm in with ya anyway OT! I know there's going to have to be money spent to make things better. But a good portion of what's in that plan is bad ideas, but that's government, left or right, it's mostly bad ideas.

Now that is no lie. I honestly believe they start out with good intentions. But government and politics are a business. And eventually to survive they have to get ruthless. And with each bit of shady business they have to do, it gets easier. They gain a little more power with each deal. Before long they've lost any idea of doing what they set out to do. It becomes so that more power and money and fame is all that's on their mind. In my opinion politics, power, and money, are worse than any heroin or crack on the market.
Wonder how things would work if we drafted our leaders like we use to draft our soldiers and call it a public duty and service. To decline would be equal to treason.
Re: Some facts about the Democrats' massive spending bill
Hey Dawg, I really think you just had a good idea. Draft them like they used to do to us. One term only. Just think of the multi millions that could be saved by not having all of that BS and elections. See my new thread on drafting

Well if they are a business, they should have been bankrupt many years ago.
