You mean more Broadway productions or Broadway productions made into movies? Of course, there are always new Broadway musical productions like 'Monty Python's Spamalot' with David Hyde Pierce and 'Curtains' the musical comedy whodunit also starring David Hyde Pierce. Both those come to mind, but they don't seem to put many of them on film much anymore. I don't understand that either.

Perhaps a large lack of talent. You don't see any more talented stars like the stars of those movies I mentioned do you?

I think the Merrill Streep generation was the last generation of the really great actors. There are some pretty good young actors out there today, but it seems to be a dwindling lot.

It's because they make movies for teens and young adults. They know folks over 30 are more likely to wait for the dvd and watch it at home. I mean folk in their 30's have kids, morgages, work, and a lack of time to go to the movies. People over thirty are less likely to spend a hundred bucks to for a movie. And if you take the kids, that's what it's going to cost, and if you take the kids, you're going to take them to a movie they won't be whining about having to watch.

They do make musicals, but they are a long way from the sound of music.

You're exactly right. Me and Guy haven't been to the show in so long, more than a year. Like you said, God forbid you each get tonic and some junk to eat, because for two of you, you are looking at close to $100.00. Forget about taking the whole family. What are you gonna tell the kids, no snacks? And they won't let you bring in tonic and snacks. I feel bad for these kids taking their girl on a movie date nowadays.

You aint kidding. I miss the drive in we use to have here. 5 dollars a car and you got to watch 3 movies. We could get a burger before hand some popcorn and drinks, maybe a slice of pizza on 20 bucks and still have enough left for smokes. (I had a Bronco that I'd rigged to hide beer and chips and stuff anyway.)

Me and my girlfriends,we used to hop in the trunk of our girlfriend's father's Ford. Along with the brewskies. They still have a drive-in up here. We took the kids a few times; last time was about 10 years ago. They loved it every time. You know, that feeling of total freedom at a show, sitting on the hood of the car, they loved that. NEways, I heard that now it only shows pornos. I'm not sure if that's true, but if it is, they'll tear it down soon. Too bad, so much fun for kids and families and a great place to make out on a date, hehe!

That's what happened to ours. Actually, we had three as I was growing up, and they all eventuall went to porn and soon closed. It's a shame. That use to be my thing, get a babe to agree to go out, take pops bronco. Get there and of course the bronco was so tall we'd have to go way in the back out of the lights. I'd back it in, hook the volume thing to the tailgate window, and on roll the little mattrises in the back. We could sit there and munch, drink, watch the movie and chat a little.. yea, we chatted. Very Happy

Post by HotParadox Thu Feb 05, 2009 12:30 pm

It seems that Americans are not the only ones who are ignorant, arrogant, rude, crude, loud, ill-mannered, etc., as this audio-straight from the big mouth of the pompous, Welsh-born, British actor Christian Bale, just 2 days ago-proves.

I like this thread.

Moderator, how bout starting a sub topic group under General called movies or entertainment. A place where everybody could put their political and religious differences aside for a minute and talk about movies and stuff.

I just watched Into The Wild last night. Has anyone else seen this movie? What did you think about it. I know it's a little old but I rarely go to theaters to see movies. I just can't bring myself to spend $9 on a ticket and $5 on a soda just to watch a movie. I usually wait until it comes out on DVD.

Anyway, that's another thread altogether. I thought this movie was outstanding!! Sean Penn wrote the screenplay and directed it. True story too. Great movie, highly recommend it.

Go to my first post, Biggie. As an intro to this thread, "That's Entertainment", I wrote:

I think this is the thread you are wanting, but maybe I am just misunderstanding? confused

Tell me if you want something else, or in addition to this, and I will try to oblige! I love you

I haven't seen that movie. Does Sean Penn star in it, besides being the writer and director? Who else is in it? I like Sean Penn. I think he's underrated as an actor. He's become such a political voice, that that is all you hear about.

Only seen the films in bold, mate, AFAIK.

Rent Hostel iif you can.

Real hair raising concept to it. What a Face

Does anyone think that we might see a plethora of films in 3D, in the near future?

I know it is not a new idea, but the effects before were not great, now much better, apparetly.

Film makers will want to not only produce a good movie, but one that the audience can literally interact with?

I think 3D is more of a gag they use from time to time to get folks into the movies. I doubt it will stick around long until the figure away to ditch the glasses.

Hostile was good.

I saw Taken last night.. I liked that one. But I think that because I sort of relate to Leam Neeson's character. Not being a ex spy, but being split from my daughters mother and having a job working oddball hours and weekends. Not really being able to have much time with her until she was almost grown.

Seven Pounds was good, kind of a weird role for Will smith, but a good movie none the less.

Too bad things went this way for this man. He seems to have a point in his defense; that he was impeached and lost his position as Govenor based on criminal charges which will not be proven until later, at a criminal trial.
Again, political circumstances and "workings" come through as so rotten and lame. As well, things are done by people above and beyond us and we are typically told material ONLY THEY WANT US TO HEAR. MEaning that it is filtered and inaccurate.
I, of course, know nothing about this man personally and would only know what I have recently learned through all the publicity. I depise rotten and corrupt politicans. But first, I would like to have it proven satisfactorily that he deserved such harsh treatment. Because, people at his level usually get better consideration and fairer treatment than we do. So if he is being treated this way: impeached and out as Governor, even though criminla charges have not been proven, as there has not been a court trial yet, that means he was deprived under the "due-process" circumstance that is supposedly extended to EVERYONE under the Constitution.
SOunds to me as though there were other people with their agendas using this situation as a convienent way of throwing him out so as they could be installed and do their biding.

That might be because it's not his usual kicking ass type of role. I notice a lot of people here didn't like it because of what it's about and they find it hard to believe the character would put that much thought into what he was going to do, and be that generous about it.

I haven't seen Get Carter. Now the Italian Job is a classic.

I still say he's guilty as hell. But the way the impeachment process is set up is bs. He should of been allowed to have witnesses and have been able to show proof as to a reasonable doubt of his guilt. But if they allow that then they can't boot someone out so quick.

I am not necessarily defending this man. All I am saying is that based on information that we get out here at street level we are expected to accept and believe what they have accused him of. If Criminal Charges he was accused of were used as the basis for his impeachment, then he should have not been impeached until the findings in the criminal trial. WHat they have done is accused him of crimes and taken action to take waway his office as Governor before they have proven that he is guilty as charged. THat is actually illegal under the system of due process.
That is really scary and dangerous. THe same could happen to any one of us. For that matter it has many times.
I just saw on T.V. where the state of Texas is considering posthomusly pardoning a man accused of Rape. Didn't see the details, but obviously he was executed, or died in Prison. He was in Prison and was possibly executed for a crime he didn't commit.
I am sure that where ever he is now, he is grateful. So are his survivors. Rolling Eyes

I agree. There was a fella here in N.C. a few years ago that had gotten life for rape and murder. He served like 15 years until they finally allowed DNA tests, (wasn't available at the time of his trial). It proved there was no way he could of been the one who did it. And they got some kind of evidence that the police screwed up too I think. Anyway, he had children, both had grown into adults while he was in prison, his wife divorced him soon after the conviction.. he lost everything. He sued the city and state, all the judge gave him was 50 grand. That's it for a life destroyed.

I've never had trouble with the Law and don't intend to. As well, I prefer to see offenders punsihed to the limit of the law. However, it would be good to know that a guilty person, as charged was tried and sentenced as the extent of the crime commited deserves. As well, that they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The fifty-thousand you mentioned is a pretty sorry excuse for compensation for his lost 15 years and the other family circumstances. As well, "we apologize" rings pretty hollow - it is better left unsaid!
Every time I read or hear of such circumstances, where an innocent person has been dealt with in this way, it just makes me cringe. Because I know how I would feel if I were them. And the ones that have been executed... Wow!... how is amends ever made to set something like that right?

Despite the fact that every time this guy opens his mouth I am more convinced that he is guilty, I cannot understand for the life of me how he could have been impeached before a conviction. Maybe I just don't understand this particular law, but it does seem off to me too, Coontie.

Yep, that's why I'm sort of torn about the death penalty. On one hand if they did it, they deserve it. On the other, if the wrong person is killed does that not make the state murders? I mean if someone killed someone I cared about and I went off the deep end and killed the one I was convinced did it, would I not be tried for murder? The only difference is a court room.

That's what the Talk Show Host focused upon, to a great extent; that Blagovich was appearing in public protesting his innocence too much. Left me wondering: WHO is an individuals' best friend when there's no else? Who is left to stand and defend? I say it is THAT individual.
Left me wondering what the Talk Show Host would do in a similiar situation and how he would feel if people accused him of protesting his innonence too much.
It gets pretty lonely under those circumstances. Maybe he's getting what he deserves; a corrupt politican, finally caught up with. Good! But first, allow the man an honest and truthful hearing. Let the evidence be brought out and people; accusers, challenged and confronted. Otherwise, it is just a Kangaroo-Court. Something none of us would ever want to face. But when such as that is allowed, and in especially "high places", then guess what may be evolving DOWN to us.
